Good news: Bun (né Bernard Freeman) will be resuming the role of Professor B for the return of his “Religion and Hip Hop Culture” course at Rice University this fall.
Better new: This time around, the class is open to the public! Rice University will be offering the much talked about course through their School of Continuing Studies. Taking place on Tuesdays at 7pm-8:30pm from September 13th to November 1st and yielding 12 Continuing Education Unit credits, here’s what you can expect from the syllabus:

• Religious traditions and rap music: Islam, Christianity and rap
• Hip hop as a critique of religious institutions
• Hip hop and life meaning
• Hip hop, a “new” religion – Works of artists who argue hip hop is a unique religious language and experience
$170 (or $150 for Rice alumni) will get you into the class, co-taught by Dr. Anthony Pinn, Rice’s Agnes Cullen Arnold Professor of Humanities and professor of religious studies. Not quite sold yet? How about this: No. Homework.
